Welcome!

Featuring creative nonfiction buoyed by curiosity, critical inquiry, and playfulness, What If I Trusted Myself? A Creative Reclamation project delves into the complex, rewarding work of overcoming self-doubt and embodying self-trust. Subscribers will receive essays, flash nonfiction, book reviews, and occasional creative prompts exploring these topics directly in their inboxes.

Readers will also get updates on my memoir-in-progress, You Never Have to Leave Again. My memoir unpacks my arduous passage into and out of coercive mind control. My journey is ironic: I was a Social Psychology college textbook editor with the top mind-control researchers and experts accessible on speed dial when I met “the master.” Devastating manipulation can happen to anyone. All it requires is being at the wrong place at the wrong time. But creative reclamation and living wholly are also possible.

What If I Trusted Myself? is currently free to read. I’d love for you to join me on this journey.

Who am I?

  • A writer, editor, and book coach-in-training.

  • Formerly a writing professor at UNM-Taos, a developmental editor in-house at McGraw-Hill, and a writing consultant at ICSA Today (International Cultic Studies Association).

  • I’ve edited, written, and taught across genres and disciplines for over three decades.

My MA in Literature is from UCC in Cork, Ireland. The foothills of the Sandia Mountains (north of Albuquerque, south of Santa Fe) are the magical place I call home. Wild horses roam here, an endless source of delight to me.
